sunbury shores art gallery "art of food"

So my "cheesy still life" painting got accepted for the "art of food" show at the Sunbury shores art gallery in st. Andrews N.B.. But unfortunatly I wasn't able to make it cause it was on thanksgiving weekend, i was super bumbed out about this. But I heared the opening was really great, a couple hundred showed up and the art work was increadable. I would have love to have gone to talked to people and gotten some feed back, but ce la vie !

My painting is the one on the bottom of the group of three with the thin black frame.

I got these pictures curtacy of the sunbury shores art gallery fan page on facebook......... add them on facebook to check out the other pictures from the rest of the "art of food" show, you know you wanna :)

cellphone bags

I thought I'd make a little item for my etsy store, something a little lower in price, but still shows my style.  So I decided to make some cellphone cases, I modeled it after one I had made a few months ago that I use for my own cell phone.  I was inspired by all the moon landing talk that's been going on lately, I found this article in the globe and mail and another on line. I created 3 silkscreens, one of the moon, one of a spaceman, and on a copy of a newspaper.  And then just went to'er.  It was super quick to silkscreen and sew up, then I just hemmed the top with a zigzag stitch and added some hardware (grommets and keychain hook thing). The really time consuming part would be the ironing to heat set the images. I've really got to work on that. In a real studio I would have a heat iron thing that pulls over the silkscreened image and sets it (hands free) in 30 sec., but they cost a fortune so I have to stop dreaming about them and find a cheap alternative.

The sewing machine project

I just got a brand spankin' new sewing machine, and it's super awesome. It does everything. But I still love my old sewing machine, it works fine and I feel super sentamental towards it and I want to make sure it still gets love from someone now that I don't need it anymore . I'm gonna try to sell it, so I wanna find it a good home.  I thought I would make it super glam and sexy, so that no one could resist it.
I really wish that I had taken a picture of it before I got started, it was so increadably retro and yellow.  What I did to give it a fresh look was to spray it with a primer. I used a plastic spray paint primer that I had bought for the case. I tested it and found it worked fine on the metal body. I taped off everything methodically ( and I mean really methodically, I used an exacto knife to get really clean edges). Then I sprayed two light coats of the primer and let it dry really well. I've found the best way to use spray paint is to be patient with it. Light coats and lots of time to dry give it a really nice look and make the paint stick better. Then I coated it with 2-3 coats of the orchid pink spray paint.
I plan on painting this with a tatoo'ish inspired peacock with a giant tail, and I think I might add some embellishments with swakorski crystal at the end to make it super sharp. I'll keep posting the steps as I go, I should have it done in the next couple off weeks.
